The Silk Experience - Robin Russo

Fully explore the world of silk from the egg to the final product. Study the history, geography and science of sericulture. Reel and stretch cocoons and spin every form of silk fiber and silk blend available to the handspinner. We will blend silk with other fibers for a better understanding of how that blending ultimately affects our knitted garments. We will spin embroidery thread, try knitting with unspun fibers, make silk paper, do kumihimo (silk braiding)and felt using silk fibers as the surface embellishment. This class gives the participant an opportunity to do a variety of creative things with silk and learn a few new techniques.
